Recreation New Brunswick’s programs and initiatives are designed to engage recreation professionals, volunteers, students and the wider community in enhancing quality of life for the province.
NB PLAYS! is a New Brunswick-led initiative developed by Recreation New Brunswick and its partners. It supports leaders and strengthens capacity for recreation programming that fosters health and wellness in our province.
NB PLAYS! has established a framework for quality, holistic programming that promotes physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual wellness. The initiative is aligned with New Brunswick’s Wellness Movement, featuring positive mental health, physical activity, healthy eating, learning experiences, outdoor adventures and community connections as key elements of overall well-being.
HIGH FIVE® is Canada’s quality standard for children’s recreation and sport. Before HIGH FIVE®, no standard existed and there was a clear need for an innovative approach to help organizations enhance program quality and provide positive experiences for children, which would remain with them for a lifetime.
The Inclusive Recreation Activity Fund, formally the Provincial
Recreation Access Fund, exists to provide support and facilitate direct
participation for those with disabilities. It is our intention to reduce
or eliminate barriers that hinder participation. This re-imagined fund
can help cover the costs of registration fees, transportation costs, and
equipment needs of individuals who would not have been able to take
part in physical activities without this program. Introduced in 2015, a
portion of the overall fund ($2500) will be used as a one-time annual
grant. Municipalities or organizations can apply for this grant, and the
funds can be used towards inclusive recreation programming or inclusive
upgrading of a facility.
How does it work? Individuals with a disability can apply for funding from the Inclusive Recreation Activity Fund to help cover activity related expenses. Want to join a gym, or aqua size class? We can help with registration fees. Want to attend a summer camp or after school program? We can pay for that as well! We’ll even help you with some of your equipment and transportation needs too. In fact, we can cover expenses for just about anything, as long as the activity is “ACTIVE”, and not just a “one-time thing”. Maximum Request: $250.
FUNDING DEADLINES FOR 2017-2018: (July 14/17 October 13/17 and January 19/18)
For more information on the program, contact: Michelle DeCourcey at 506.459.1929 Ext 2.
How does it work? Municipalities or organizations that provide recreation services can apply for funding from the Inclusive Recreation Activity Fund to help cover inclusive programming or facility related expenses. Want to offer a parallel sport program in your recreation programs, or add specialized equipment to your facility? We can help with these costs. Want to provide a ramp or upgrade your washrooms to include wheelchair access? We can cover expenses for just about anything, as long as the program or facility will be part of the recreation delivery system and used to make those individuals with a disability more “ACTIVE”. Maximum Request: $2500.
Please note: $2500 is the total amount for this program. If the complete amount is dispersed in the first round (July), there will be no remaining money for the October and January rounds of funding. If funds remain, the amount will be updated here and available for the subsequent rounds of funding.
FUNDING DEADLINES FOR 2017-2018 WILL BE: (July 14/17 October 13/17 and January 19/18)
Municipalities/organizations must provide a letter of intent with your application detailing how these funds will be used and the benefit to your community/organization.
