New CSA Playspace Requirements and COVID-19

This course will review 15 major changes present in the 2020 edition of the CSA Standard, as well as, how to re-open playspaces under COVID-19. This 2020 edition of CSA Z614 supersedes the previous editions, published in 2014, 2007, 2003, 1998, and 1990.

This one hour webinar will cover changes such as:
1. Exemptions for Adventure Playgrounds
2. Age groups specified to be ‘guidelines only’
3. Specific inclusion of natural elements that are ‘intended’ for play
4. Foundations that are at or above the level of the protective surfacing
5. Changes to surface impact testing criteria
6. Exemptions for grass and natural materials as surfacing up to 450-mm (18 inches)
7. A 3-dimensional volume of a playspace
8. Exemptions for looping and entrapment in enclosed swing seats (baby swings) and swing seats designed for compliance with Annex H
9. Exemptions for musical instrumental panels and strikers in a playspace
10. New ‘designated play surface’ test procedure.
11. Changes to protective surfacing zones and no-encroachment zone requirements for rotating equipment and embankment slides
12. Changes to the requirements for climbing net structures
13. Hazard Identification and Risk-Benefit Assessments (H.I.R.A.) for previously uncovered types of play equipment.
14. Information on designing thermally comfortable playspaces
15. How to re-open playspaces under COVID-19
