Conference Overview
The 2010 Recreation New Brunswick Conference and Tradeshow is scheduled for September 22-24, 2010, at the Atlantic Host Hotel in Bathurst, NB. The Conference Committee is seeking to recruit presenters for this annual event which attracts over 125 delegates from throughout New Brunswick and the Maritimes.
Our Focus
This year's conference theme is "Unity in Community". Conference sessions will highlight the impact of recreation and leisure in our com-munities, and discuss its role in engaging and unifying our citizens. Presentations related to this theme, recreation, physical activity, pro-gramming and planning, arts and culture and adventure recreation are being sought.
The Youth Development Coordinator is responsible for developing sport programs for young athletes with an intellectual disability in school and/or community settings. The implementation of grassroots programs will achieve Special Olympics New Brunswick's strategic goals to increase athlete recruitment and retention and to increase new volunteers and family involvement. This position will utilize the Special Olympics Canada Active Start resources for children ages 2 to 6 years and the FUNdamentals resources for children 7 to 12 years. Additional efforts will be made to recruit youth 13 – 21. Additionally, sport program delivery will focus on Special Olympics Canada's core and recognized sports. Recess Guardians Program

Unique program puts play time back into recess.
Elementary school children are getting their recesses back thanks to a new program. University of Saskatchewan kinesiology student Mike McDonald started the Recess Guardians program two years ago to get kids playing again.
"They grow up with such a TV generation they don't know the concept of just being able to go out and play tag," said McDonald. Read more.
